Where did the Sheikah Tech go in Zelda Tears of The Kingdom?
What happened to the Sheikah tech in TOTK? Director Hidemaro Fujibayashi finally answers.
Most of us have put Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom down by now. But that does not mean we are tired of discussing it. One of the biggest questions in Tears of The Kingdom is: what happened to the Sheikah Technology from Breath of The Wild? Why aren’t the Divine Beasts around in Tears of The Kingdom? Where did the Sheikah Slate, Sheikah Towers, and the Guardians go?
While the game did its best to make you forget about the Sheikah technology and replace it with the more interesting Zonai technology, it is hard not to think about how four giant mechanical beasts could just have vaporized from the face of Hyrule.
Fujibayashi: The Sheikah Tech just vanished
The director from both games, Hidemaro Fujibayashi, has finally addressed the question. And while the answer sure is interesting, it might not be the answer we all wanted.
In an interview with The Telegraph, Fujibayashi said that the Sheikah Technology apparently just “vanished.” This is what he said:
“It dissapeared after the Calamity was defeated. All of the people of Hyrule also witnessed this, but there is no one who knows the mechanism or reason to why they dissaperaed, and it is considered a mystery. It is beliveved that since the Calamity disapperared, they also disapperaed as their role had ben fulfilled. It is, anyway, commonplace for mysterious events and strange phenomena to occur in Hyrule. Thus, people have simply assumed the reason behind the disappearance to likely be related to ancient Sheikah technology and it seems there is no one who has tried to explore the matter further. The main civilizations in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are completely different, so we thought about the game based on concepts that match each of these civilizations.“
After serving its purpose, it seems that the Sheikah Technology disappeared without a trace, and the entire Hyrule populace did not seem to care about its whereabouts or how it vanished. Despite all the research and investigation done on the Sheikah in BOTW, the topic seems to have become less significant in Hyrule after Calamity Ganon’s defeat.
It’s important to remember that we’re talking about a Zelda game here. As the Zelda timeline has shown us, the series doesn’t always prioritize making sense, particularly when it comes to connecting the stories of different games within the franchise.
