Stardew Valley 1.6 – Everything we know about the upcoming update
Hats on pets, winter outfits, new festivals and more is coming in the Stardew Valley 1.6 update.
Back in April of 2023, Stardew Valley creator ConcernedApe, announced that Stardew Valley is getting a new update. ConcernedApe described the update back then as a minor update that would focus on making the game easier and more powerful to mod, but that there also would be new content. This is what we know so far about Stardew Valley 1.6.
When will the Stardew Valley 1.6 update be released?
ConcernedApe has revealed through social media that Stardew Valley 1.6 will be released on March 19th for PC. Console and Mobile will be getting the update soon after.
What is new in Stardew Valley 1.6?
Update: The update is now available for PC. You can read all of the changes here in the official changelog.

Since the initial announcement, ConcernedApe has been tweeting about the update and has shed some light on what we can expect from version 1.6.
Back in April, ConcerendApe confirmed that there would be added dialogues in the game, and in September, a content update plan was released. The plan listed the following:
- A new major festival
- Two new mini-festivals
- New late-game content, which expands on each of the skill areas.
- New items and crafting recipes
- Joja alternatives to some of the end-game quests.
- 100+ new lines of dialogue
- Winter outfits for the villagers
- A new type of reward for completing billboard requests
- (PC) Support for 8-player multiplayer
- Many small additions and adjustments
- New farm type
- New secrets & more
In addition to this, the content plan showed some new sprites for items, creatures, and objects like:
- Winter outfits for NPC’s
- New trees and bushes
- Frogs
- A new Warp Totem
- What looks like an arrow quiver
- A ticket to something
- A mysterious package
- A cup made out of Iridium?
- A mysterious figure. Is this a new NPC?
- And more…
The update-plan makes it seem that the update is much bigger than what ConcernedApe initially gave out to be back in April.
On October 5th ConcernedApe posted pictures on X (former Twitter) showing animals with hats, suggesting that you can now put the hats that you find in the game on your pet. How cute!

ConcernedApe also tweeted a picture on October 30th, of what does look like a giant blueberry with sunglasses. What it really is remains to be seen.

On December 1st ConcernedApe tweeted that a lot of work was done on the update the previous month and that he is working hard on it. He also posted a picture that introduced Big Chests in the game that will be able to carry twice as much as the normal chests.
ConcernedApe recently posted a picture on X that appears to depict a New Year’s celebration within the game. This hints that a new year’s celebration could be added as one of the new festivals in the game.
On January 26, ConcernedApe posted a small update about 1.6 on X, saying:
1.6 ended up being a little larger in scope than originally planned. I’m done adding major new content to it now, though, and it’s in a bug-fixing and polishing phase until it’s ready for release. Thx for your patience. It’ll be fun to see everyone play it!
In the comments, ConcerndApe confirms even more about the update:
- The game will absolutely be released in 2024.
- The update is more about adding minor things to old stuff rather than adding completely new things to the game.
- The update will be released to PC first, but hopefully very soon after to other platforms.
- The recommended way to experience the new update is to start over on a new save file.
- The Update does not make it easier to install mods, but it does make things easier for mod creators to make new mods.
Will 1.6 make mods available for Stardew Valley on Switch?
Since ConcernedApe has hinted that Stardew Valley 1.6 will make the game easier to mod, does that mean the same for consoles? We can only dream at this point, but that would make the game so much more enjoyable to play on a console.
One of the most popular things about Stardew Valley is that you can mod the game to your liking. But this is only available on PC and on Mac. That means the Nintendo Switch is left in the dark regarding modded content for Stardew Valley.
As more information on the update is announced, we will make sure to post them here.
