Nintendo Switch 2 does indeed support mouse and keyboard
Yes, you can play your Switch 2 games with both mouse and keyboard. This is how you can turn your Switch 2 into a PC.
One of the most exciting new features on the Nintendo Switch 2 is the addition of mouse functionality via the updated Joy-Con 2 controllers.
With this new generation of Joy-Cons, Nintendo has removed the infrared depth-tracking sensor found in the original Joy-Cons and replaced it with mouse controls. This change allows for gameplay that feels closer to a PC experience.
Currently, games like Cyberpunk 2077, Metroid Prime 4 Beyond, and the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour are some of the few games confirmed to utilize these mouse controls.
However, when using the right Joy-Con as a mouse, some button placements can get really awkward—especially in games like Cyberpunk 2077, which doesn’t automatically adjust button mapping based on control style. As a result, the mouse controls in Cyberpunk 2077 don’t feel particularly optimized when using the Joy-Con alone and leave a big room for improvement.
Back in May, we got confirmation that some games on the Switch 2 also support gameplay with standard USB mice.
But what if you could use both a standard PC mouse and keyboard when playing games like Cyberpunk 2077 on your Switch 2 instead? Just like a PC. Good news: you can!
And surprisingly, it’s incredibly easy to set up.
How to play Switch 2 with mouse and keyboard
All you need is a USB mouse and keyboard. Simply plug them into the Switch 2 via one of the USB ports on the dock or through the USB-C connectors on the console itself—and you’re ready to go.
In Cyberpunk 2077, there’s no need to tweak any in-game settings. The game automatically detects the keyboard and mouse, updates the on-screen button prompts accordingly, and just works—right out of the box.
In fact, if you go to your controller settings within the Switch 2 starter menu, you can even change what language you use for your USB keyboard, which means Nintendo is supporting the use of a keyboard as a controller.
What other games for the Switch 2 support mouse and keyboard?
It’s not yet clear how widespread mouse and keyboard support is among other Nintendo Switch 2 titles, but the fact that Cyberpunk 2077 supports it at the console’s launch is a strong sign that future Switch 2 titles may support it in the future.
However, don’t expect exclusive Nintendo titles—such as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond—to support mouse and keyboard input. Nintendo will likely prioritize its own control schemes, like the Joy-Con 2 and Pro Controller, before considering support for third-party peripherals.
That said, mouse and keyboard support is more likely to come from third-party developers in the future.
